Book Release Parties
Sun ,21/09/2008Even when I’m not really psyched about the book, I love the release parties. I’ve kind of become an addict, actually. I attend even when I don’t really want to buy the book. People who are all excited about books, milling about doing fun activities. Shooting a child-sized bow and suction-cup arrows at little targets, making swords and fencing with random twelve year old girls who look really, really unhappy to be there, painting awesome tiles…
This Friday’s release party was a lot of fun, even though I didn’t care about the book being released. And even though there were only a few people there, it was a lot of fun. Maybe more fun, because there wasn’t a lot of screeching and yelling like at most of the releases.
Best thing of the night? The promotional bookmark for the book being released featured Amelia Atwater Rhodes on the back of it. She’s got a great book coming out in a few months, and I love her books. I wish they’d do a release party for her books, too. I’d all the way dress up in costume, stand in line, count down to the second until I can flock forward and get the book.
Since I wasn’t really psyched about the book coming out, I picked up the ones I had waiting for me already, anyway. Mary Downing Hahn’s Wait Till Helen Comes (a long-time favorite of mine) and Justine Larbalestier’s How To Ditch Your Fairy. Given how much fun I had raeding Justine Larbalestier‘s How To Ditch Your Fairy, I think I’ll be waiting in line the day the next one comes out, midnight release or not.
